Innovation by tradition

Over the past eight decades, we have introduced many technologies now considered standard at cement plants. We are proud of this history, but are not constrained by it. Driven always to improve, we strive to make cement manufacturing as efficient, productive, and sustainable as possible. We push the boundaries of innovation with an expanding range of solutions to meet the challenges of today and deliver our vision of Cement beyond Carbon.

Our vision

Anyone who knows where we come from can imagine where we want to go. When KHD was founded in Cologne in 1856, the city’s cathedral was still missing its impressive spire. Today, Cologne’s landmark is one of the most famous buildings in the world.

Nevertheless, the cathedral is never finished; new work is constantly being carried out. Like the cathedral, we are also evolving to meet the needs of a changing cement industry. This forward-looking approach underpins our vision and mission to deliver the solutions required to fully-decarbonize the cement industry. We call this Cement beyond Carbon and it informs everything we do – both now and in the decades to come.

Like a cathedral, a company also needs a solid foundation. We are building our future on the solid financial foundation provided by our strategic partner, AVIC Beijing Co. Ltd. So, when you work with KHD, you are not only choosing a company committed to delivering the solutions you need to secure your future; you can be sure that we will be there for you in the years and decades ahead.

KHD’s vision

KHD’s mission statements

  • To offer the most efficient solutions for a sustainable cement industry.
  • To provide the most environmental-friendly technologies for the world’s most used product.

Who we are

We supply equipment, components and complete plants for the production of cement, including advanced digitalization and decarbonization solutions. In addition, we support our customers around the world with customized services for the analysis, optimization and development of their existing plants.

We hold three things as particularly important: individual service; genuine partnerships; and responsibility for the world in which we live.

As a traditional company with roots in the German Rhineland, reliability is a fundamental part of our identity. First and foremost, this means our products and services deliver the performance expected of them. But it goes beyond this, as we aim to be a trusted partner to every customer and in our involvement in the wider cement community.

We bring this ethos to everything we do. Our expertise lies in serving the individual requirements of our customers. This is why we continue to focus on tailor-made solutions. Indeed, many of our inventions have been born out of our customers’ needs and our efforts to solve our customers’ problems before they arise.

How we work

As a global company, we serve many stakeholders. Our customers always come first. At the same time, we must not forget the environment, and the many, regionally‑specific regulations that have been enacted to protect it, as well as the global push to reduce CO2 emissions. These diverse stakeholder groups might appear to have conflicting demands. But not for us.

We deliver value to all through our Number One focus: service. We are always working to achieve the best for our customers with a focus on tailor-made solutions that solve the trickiest of process challenges. Our focus also drives our innovation and commitment to developing more environmentally-sustainable products as part of our Cement beyond Carbon vision. This satisfies our customers, helps protect the environment and, as a result, keeps all our stakeholders happy.

KHD appointed Weir Minerals, part of Weir Group PLC, as our exclusive global agent and recommended service provider for high pressure grinding rolls (HPGRs) for minerals processing applications. For more information, please contact us.

ISO Certification

All KHD group locations are certified according to ISO 9001. This joint, global certificate guarantees that we meet the highest quality standards at all our worldwide locations.

KHD’s group-wide ESG organization is led by our sustainability manager. Together with the management the sustainability manager is responsible for driving our sustainability strategy for each of the three pillars of ESG performance. Our target is to position KHD in the upper range of industry peers in terms of sustainability.

This ambition is supported by our Global Sustainability Roadmap and an underlying detailed implementation program. The Roadmap sets targets for each ESG pillar to meet our environmental, social, and governance responsibilities, and position our business to benefit from the green transition.

And this is just the beginning. We provide regular updates on our sustainability initiatives on the News & Reports pages of our website. We also welcome questions and feedback from all stakeholders on sustainability issues via the contact form.

“Here at KHD, we are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen. Throughout our everyday operations, products, and services, we strive to achieve shared value for all our stakeholders by embracing high environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. In doing so, we are building a sustainable and resilient business based on strong ethical, environmental, and economic foundations.”

Jianlong Shen, Chief Executive Officer

Sustainability at KHD – breaking it down

We drive our corporate sustainability efforts through three focused areas of responsibility: environmental, social, and governance.

“ESG has always been part of our corporate culture. For the years to come, KHD will actively manage the dynamic GRC (governance, risk, compliance) landscape. The Corporate Social Responsibility Directive (CSRD) will not merely be an additional reporting requirement but be a substantial driver for KHD’s long-term success.”

Jürgen Luckas, Chief Financial Officer.

Our value-add to the society – KHD supports the key UN goals

KHD recognizes the importance of all the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We also understand we have a direct role to play in delivering many of them through our corporate culture, sustainability strategy, and Cement beyond Carbon vision.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership.
