KHD and AVIC Win First Joint Project in Turkey

SÖNMEZ Cimento demonstrated their confidence in KHD´s advanced technology and their strategic partnership with AVIC, by placing an order with AVIC International for its new 5,000 tpd clinker production line. KHD and AVIC collaborate to offer select, competitive solutions for the cement industry by combining the strengths of KHD’s technology, with AVIC’s construction experience and competitive cost platform.

As KHD and AVIC’s first project in the region, the contract awarded KHD an order for engineering, equipment supply, training, and the supervision of erection and commissioning. Scheduled for commissioning during the summer of 2014, the line will be erected near Adana in the Mediterranean region of Turkey.

KHD designed core components for this contract include:

  • 5-stage preheater with PYROCLON-R® Low NOx Calciner, equipped with PYROLOOP®, PYROTOP® Compact Mixing Chamber, tertiary air duct, and PYROBOX® Calciner Firing System for primary and secondary fuels
  • PYRORAPID® two-station rotary kiln, 5.0m diameter x 59.0m long
  • PYRO-JET® Kiln Burner for primary and secondary fuels
  • PFC PYROFLOOR® Clinker Cooler equipped with a PYROCRUSHER® System

This project will mark the first commissioning of KHD’s Low-NOx calciner with PYROLOOP® Technology in EMEA. Coupled with KHD’s proven pyroprocessing technology, this project will combine cutting-edge thermal recuperation and low emissions technology.

Traditionally, Turkey has the highest market share of KHD equipment, with almost 70% of Turkish production units designed and installed by KHD. Although this is KHD’s 45th kiln line in Turkey, this will the first project of this magnitude and KHD’s largest kiln in Europe. This project underlines KHD’s strategic partnership with AVIC, and their increasing market presence and competitiveness in the region.
