KHD expands Pyrorotor® footprint in Türkiye with Batisöke order

  • KHD to supply a Pyrorotor alternative fuels system to Batisöke Söke Çimento Sanayii T.A.Ş which shall be the second Pyrorotor unit sold in Türkiye, while bringing the worldwide installed base to 21 units.
  • The latest-generation system enables thermal substitution rates above 90% in the calciner, supporting the cement industry’s net-zero transition.

KHD will implement a Pyrorotor alternative fuel system at the Batisöke Söke Çimento Sanayii cement plant in Söke, Türkiye, the second installation of the technology in the country.  The project, which commenced in February 2026, covers the supply of a Pyrorotor unit, commissioning spare parts and supervision of erection and commissioning.

“This order confirms the growing momentum for decarbonizing cement production in the important Turkish market,” said Matthias Jochem, Chief Operating Officer at KHD. “We are delighted to be working with Batisöke Söke Çimento Sanayii on this project. The company’s investment is a clear statement of its commitment to increasing the use of alternative fuels and reducing its carbon footprint. We look forward to supporting them on that journey.”

The Pyrorotor technology is KHD’s most advanced alternative fuels solution, enabling cement plants to utilize low-quality, locally available materials with virtually no preprocessing. By leveraging a plant’s existing tertiary air stream to achieve reactor temperatures up to defined limit, it combines optimized combustion conditions with variable residency times to ensure complete fuel burnout. The system handles fuels with very low calorific values and large particle sizes for plastics and for biomass and tire chips.

A total of 23 Pyrorotor installations have now been sold worldwide across South Korea, China, Türkiye, Portugal, Thailand, and Cambodia, confirming the technology’s growing global acceptance.

“This latest order reinforces our commitment to Türkiye’s cement sector at a time when the industry faces increasing pressure to reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel flexibility,” concluded Jochem. “The Pyrorotor is proven to deliver on exactly these challenges, and we look forward to demonstrating that once again in Söke.”
