An integral part of grinding circuits, your separator can have a major impact on the performance of the entire grinding process and the quality of your end product.

The basic job of a separator is to separate on-spec material from oversize. You do not want this oversize material entering the product stream; it needs to be recirculated through the grinding process. But you also do not want to recirculate on-spec material. That wastes energy and raises costs. Getting this balance is key to separator efficiency.

On top of that, other tasks, such as drying and mixing material, may be incorporated into the separator’s design. It therefore needs an expert hand to deliver the best results.

KHD has played an integral role in the development of separators. We developed the cyclone classifiers that took over from mechanical separators in the 1970s, as well as the V-separators that became and still are an industry standard. Indeed, so successful were the V-separators, our competition could not resist copying our design!
